Introduction to Brda Wine
Goriška Brda, often referred to simply as Brda, is a stunning wine region located in the western part of Slovenia, bordering Italy. This area, sometimes likened to Slovenian Tuscany for its rolling hills and medieval villages, is a haven for viticulture. Brda’s unique microclimate, characterized by warm days and cool nights, combined with its diverse soil types, creates an ideal environment for producing high-quality wines. The Goriška Brda region boasts a variety of wine grape species, with both indigenous and international varieties thriving here. The local winemakers have perfected their craft over centuries, producing wines that are both unique and expressive of the region’s terroir.
Rebula, known as Ribolla Gialla in Italy, is perhaps the most iconic grape variety of Brda. This white wine is celebrated for its bright acidity, floral aromas, and notes of green apple and citrus. Rebula can be enjoyed in several styles, from crisp and fresh to rich and complex, often aged in oak barrels.
