Michele Bean has seen the rebirth of the amphoras phenomenon applied to the wine in Friuli Venezia Giulia, moved from curiosity, have followed the the trail of his customers first watching then working to solve problems and mistakes of using not winemaking focused amphoras. Specially practicality of use, how to clean, micro oxygenation, looking impact, impact on wine. The meeting with Fabrizio Ratti realize my theories optimizing an ancient technique of wine making.
Our History: An encounter that changed our lives
The Sirio amphorae were born from the meeting of two professionals, two passionate innovators who, by combining their knowledge, have carried out an ambitious project. By combining the professional experiences and the passion of both we have created Sirio Anfore. In 2014 a casual, fortuitous meeting brought together the skills of both, Michele had already been working as an oenologist since 2003 with wines made in rudimentary amphorae and Fabrizio already worked as an oenologist. ceramist for decades, he had a project for the purification of water in third world countries or in areas subject to cataclysms, a Mayan system, rediscovered by a Guatemalan pharmacist to purify water using a very porous and silver-soaked amphora. It was natural to combine our wits and our experience. So it is the Sirio Anfore project was born, the idea was to create a winemaking method that would enhance the qualities of the wine. organoleptic characteristics of the wines without adding third party aromas and smells as is the case with wood. After months of study and hard work, it’s time to go. our first winemaking amphora was born, which we then perfected over time until we arrived at today’s result: perfect amphorae for winemaking, sought after all over the world.
Why Buy a Sirio Anfora?
Our amphoras are totally Made in Italy, the experience and design are blending in a unique object completely hand made.
The 3 pillars of our philosophy
We wanted discover again the beauty of tradition and the simplicity of the nature to create a classy and useful object that would become the protagonist in the wineries of all world.
Beautiful and functional
We are convinced that the beautiful must be combined with the practical. We managed to solve all those little problems that characterized our amphorae, aiming to make them as functional as possible. This is why today Sirio amphorae are sought after by wineries all over the world: practicality merges with beauty, giving life to a unique object.
Search for Simplicity
Simplicity is the basis of every structure, today we think that an object must be complex to work well and we have lost the ability to marvel at simplicity. Have you ever observed the perfect spiral in the snail shell or the exceptional geometry of the lotus flower or the strength and at the same time the fragility of an egg?
The Beauty
To create beautiful things you need time, skill and passion. We wanted to research classic beauty, rediscover the tradition of beauty, recover elegant and sinuous shapes; part of our work was to focus on creating a beautiful and elegant object that could pay homage to the most sought-after wineries in the world.
Production: How we make our amphorae
Completely handmade and designed in every smallest detail, in Anfore Sirio tradition meets the best innovation to create a unique object.
Microporous Ceramic – The evolution of ceramic
Sirio Anfore was born as a research and development laboratory in order to give new life to an object that has accompanied human history. Years of improvement have led us to the evolution of ceramic in a perfect material: Microporous Ceramic, a mixture of clays and minerals with the right requirements for a safe oenological use.
The excellence of Italian craftsmanship
The clay mixture is expertly pressed by hand in plaster molds to give shape to the amphorae. As the mold is stripped, internal and external leather smoothing is carried out to facilitate washing after vinification and to seal the surface. Everything is done by our artisan experts hands.
Finishing
After cooking, amphoras are smoothed internally and externally by abrasion, in order to facilitate their cleaning and sanitization
